Re:       Hope

Dear SCWLA Members:

It is, they say, a familiar story.  A mother awaits the birth of a baby.  The child is born, but she is sick.  Then hundreds, maybe thousands, surround her with hope and prayer.  The baby survives.

Earlier this year, SCWLA Director Jennifer Howe awaited the birth of a baby.  Ellie G. was born, but she was sick.  Then, hundreds, maybe thousands, including many SCWLA members, surrounded her with hope and prayer.  Today, Ellie G. is thriving.

Every child, every one of us, carries a spark of hope. And every day, we must choose between hope and despair.  In a world that some describe as dark and dying, I choose to be hopeful.

Whatever you believe this season, please believe this -- hope, indeed, springs eternal.  As Helen Keller once said, “Keep you face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.”    And so, it is my dearest hope this holiday that each of you will face the sun and choose to keep your spark of hope alive.

It is, they say, a familiar story.  A mother awaits the birth of a baby.

With best personal wishes,

Marguerite Willis

President
